(I had started writing this post weeks ago, waited to have photos to show you, forgot about it for about a month, let my hair grow back a bit, remembered it and well, here it is finally because you guys all know how much I like talking about my hair dilemmas as well as hearing about other people's hair dilemmas.)
Ever since reading about Claire's hair dilemma some time ago, I had been feeling like a haircut was in order; nothing drastic, just refreshing my usual collarbone-length bob. I hadn't visited a hairdresser for some time, and had had friends cutting my hair for me or did it myself. But when I walked by a hairdresser announcing "haircuts for 18$, walk-ins welcome" I thought, why not? Well, I was quite wrong. Really, I should have cut my hair myself. With my eyes closed. Using a swiss knife. The hairdresser was lovely, but the cut she gave me, not so much: she cut my hair a good three inches shorter than I had asked her, which would not be so bad if she had cut it well- I had been tempted to try a shorter hair style for some time, but could not decide to take the plunge. It looked so choppy, that I kept trimming bits everyday until I gave in and got some good hairdresser (also known as 'Lesbian Haircuts for everyone', I kid you not) to fix it for me.

A bit of a Bernice Bobs Her Hair kind of story (you can read it here, please do!), although it was no life-changing experience for me, oh well. I'm now aiming towards something like this, if I can figure out how to get some kind of a wave in my pin-straight locks (any recommendations?).

Have you ever been forced into a hairstyle you ended up liking?

  1. Oh, you're brave! I had a somewhat similar experience, though the really really bad hairdresser only cut off about an inch - well an inch in some places, 1/8th of an inch in others. (I did wonder if he had ever held a pair of scissors before) So the good hairdresser cut off 3 inches and all was well again, except now I'm waaaiittiiing for it to grow...

  2. I love Bernice Bobs Her Hair - It was the first F Scott Fitzgerald I'd ever read.

I have short, cropped hair now, have had similar styles since I was 10 and I love it now. But the story behind it is that when I was 10, I was playing some elaborate kidnapping game with my cousins and while I was tied up, my cousins decided it would be hilarious to cut off my long ponytail. Watching the hair come off is the closest thing to an amputation I ever had.

At that time, a very popular actress in my country was rocking the gamine crop on a TV series so my mum decided it was the best solution to the damage. And that's the story behind my hair style, which I have kept for almost 17years now.

  3. Claire: Oh no, I'm not brave! But as some hairdresser once told me: "the only thing I can guarantee is that hair grows back"-- and your hair will certainly have grown back by the end of the summer!

Lin: That's a great story! It gives me shivers just to think of how you must have felt when the hair was cut off, closest thing to an amputation indeed...

  4. I used to have a bob haircut for years but have now decided to grow it , for something different. But I love bobs! I always find they look better on others, like your own and the first photo. Also a friend of mine gave me a hair-waving tip (yet to be tested) - she says she achieves wavey hair by twisting her hair round whilst blowdrying it. I'm not sure how easy this is in practice, but it definitely beats buying curlers! x
