La Conga Blicoti

Don't worry, I'll eventually stop talking about that movie... eventually...
In the meantime, here's one of my favourite songs from the soundtrack, by the amazing Joséphine Baker:

If you have seen Midnight in Paris: I must say I am still puzzled as to why her character dances to her own record though... Any thoughts?

  1. Waah I still want to see this movie! Except I have heard different things about it… But you really liked it, yes?

  2. Katie: I might be ruining my movie-recommending credibility by saying this, but I really really liked it! I mean, it worked perfectly for me, but I can understand why it wouldn't work for somebody else. I think you should go see it, and find out for yourself!

  3. Fuck credibility, a good movie is a good movie.

    1. Yes! I was actually partly considering the person with whom I saw this movie's opinion on it, but I guess it just doesn't make sense here, out of context.

  4. We've got the soundtrack CD to "Midnight in Paris," and I was surprised to read in the liner notes that the version of this song used in the film is the Josephine Baker original, dated 1936! I thought that surely, a modern version was created for this 2011 film. How can a modern film use an old record (pre-hifi, pre-stereo sound) without sounding scratchy and ancient?

    1. Hello Dan, I just realised I never answered your comment, sorry! What you're saying is fantastic, the quality is indeed exceptional! You're also reminding me I still haven't purchased the soundtrack, which I should do sooner than later!

  5. Hi Camille,
Well I have only just seen the movie and I'll be talking about it forever. You do know that Josephine Baker was an exciting dancer and a singer. Quite energetic and comical at times!!

  6. Hello! It has been a while since you posted this, Camille, but I'll give it a try. Midnight is my favorite film. I must have watched it more than 10 times. Here is my theory. Everything that happens in the 20s happens in Gil's mind, he confuses stuff, but everything is how he imagines (he literally says that about Zelda). That's also why he imagines Josephine dancing in the middle of a bar. On her own song. Not everything makes sense in midnight just like a dream doesn't really make sense.
